How to keep a black tee black

Black cotton fades for three reasons: heat, friction and too much detergent. Take those three away and a black tee stays dark for far longer.
1. Turn it inside out
Most fading is the outside of the fabric rubbing against everything else in the drum. Inside out, the face of the tee and the chest wordmark are protected, and the inside takes the wear instead.
2. Wash cool, with darks
The care label says up to 40°. That’s the limit, not the target. A 30° wash gets an everyday tee clean and is gentler on the dye. Wash with other dark colours so nothing pale picks up lint or colour.
3. Use less detergent than the box says
Extra detergent doesn’t clean more. It stays in the fibres and leaves a dull, greyish film that reads as fading. Use a little, and a detergent made for dark colours if you have one. Never bleach.
4. Skip the tumble dryer
Heat is the fastest way to age cotton. Shake the tee out, pull it gently back to shape and dry it flat or on a hanger. Keep it out of strong direct sun, which can fade dark colours.
5. Iron cool, on the reverse
If it needs a press, use a cool iron with the tee still inside out. Never iron straight over the wordmark.
The short version: inside out, 30°, darks only, a little detergent, no dryer. The same habits keep White crisp and Forest deep.
